Carlin is pleased to confirm that Enzo Fittipaldi and Zane Maloney will join the team for the official three-day post-season FIA Formula Two test in Abu Dhabi this week. Fittipaldi joins the team following a season-long campaign which saw him finish 8th in the Championship while Maloney continues hisFormula Two experience after making his debut at the track following a seasonracing in the FIA Formula Three Championship in which he was crowned ViceChampion.

It was another stand out season in Formula Two for Carlin with the British team in contention for the Team Championship throughout the season. Finishing second overall, the team collected six wins and 14 podiums with drivers Liam Lawson and Logan Sargeant.  The duo finished third and fourth in the standings respectively with Sargeant also taking the honours for top rookie and securing enough points for a super license and his newly announced move to Williams Racing.

Having enjoyed a strong season with Lawson and Sargeant, the team’s attention is already looking to the future.  Recently announced as a Red Bull Junior, Fittipaldi comes into the three-day test following the conclusion of the FIA Formula Two Championship in which he claimed six podiums.

21-year-old Fittipaldi has enjoyed a solid career to date and most recently found himself attracting the attention of Red Bull’s Helmut Marko who snapped him up as a Red Bull Junior. In 2018 he was the F4 Italian Champion and Vice-Champion in the 2019 Formula Regional Championship. His love for racing has even seen him take on E Sports, in which he won the virtual Drivers’ World Championship for Haas F1 as well as the F1 Teams’ Championship alongside his brother Pietro.

Fittipaldi said of the upcoming test with Carlin, “I’m very excited to be testing with such a great team as Carlin.  I’m looking forward to the experience; three days will be pretty intense. It will be great to meet everyone and I’ll be working with them over the next three days to try and learn as much as possible.”

For Maloney, the test days with Carlin come off the back of his Formula Two debut this weekend in Abu Dhabi.  The Barbadian will build on his experience from this weekend and apply it to the three test days on offer, aiming to complete a combination of qualifying simulations and race runs as he looks to gain more hours behind the wheel of the F2 car.

Maloney spent his 2022 season competing in the FIA Formula Three championship and ended the season as the Vice Champion following an impressive rookie year; finishing just five points behind the eventual winner. Maloney is already well-known within the Carlin team, thanks to a stellar season in the F4 British Championship which saw him take the championship crown with the team in 2019.

Looking ahead to the three-day test, Maloney said, “I’m really looking forward to testing with Carlin, I’ve obviously spent two seasons with the team so I know a lot of the guys and girls.   I’ll just be trying to learn as much as possible for what the future holds. Yas Marina is a cool circuit, it’s also really warm here like Barbados, which has been nice! I’m happy here, it’s quite a physical circuit so three days will be quite tough but I’m looking forward to it.”

Trevor Carlin said of the week ahead; “We’ve got a great testing line up with Enzo and Zane. Obviously, Enzo already has great experience with the Formula Two car, so I have no doubt he’ll be able to hit the ground running and continue his progress in the car.

“Zane’s 2022 has been impressive in Formula Three and after his F2 debut this weekend, we’re pleased to be able to give him the opportunity to get more time in the car. We’ve seen Zane’s pace and talent first hand before so I have no doubt with his approach he’ll get a lot from this week.”
